The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the Marketing Season 2025-26.

Cabinet approves MSP for Rabi crops for marketing season 2025-26

This decision is aimed at ensuring that farmers receive remunerative prices for their produce, encouraging crop diversification, and supporting agricultural income. The announcement was made by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Among the Rabi crops, the largest absolute increase in MSP was granted to rapeseed and mustard, with a hike of Rs 300 per quintal, followed by lentil (masur) with an increase of Rs 275 per quintal.

Other crops such as gram, wheat, safflower, and barley also saw increases in their MSPs, with increments of Rs 210, Rs 150, Rs 140, and Rs 130 per quintal, respectively.

The government's move to raise the MSP is aligned with the Union Budget 201819 announcement, which committed to setting MSP at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production for crops. This approach is intended to guarantee that farmers are compensated with a margin over their production costs, thus safeguarding their income and promoting agricultural sustainability.
