ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT FORMS SIT TO PROBE MAN'S DEATH WHO SET SELF ON FIRE AFTER HIS LAND WAS 'UNAUTHORIZEDLY' OCCUPIED BY COPS

The Allahabad High Court in the case Kushma vs. State Of U.P. Thru. Prin. Secy. Home U.P. Lko. And Others observed and has directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to form a Special Investigating Team, SIT to probe into the tragic death of a man who set himself on fire allegedly after his land was ‘unauthorizedly’ occupied by police persons in connivance with the revenue officials.

The bench comprising of Justice Vivek Chaudhary and Justice Narendra Kumar Johari in its order stated that the Special Investigating Team, SIT will consist of three members: Manjil Saini, Inspector General of Police (Vigilance Establishment, Lucknow), as the head, and Radhey Shyam Rai, Additional Superintendent of Police, Gonda, and Gaurav Ranjan Srivastava, Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue), Bahraich, as members.

The Special Investigating Team, SIT has been tasked with investigating and probing the matter and to submit its report in a sealed envelope within the period of six weeks.

The Division bench in the case expressed its dissatisfaction with how the local police were investigating the case.

The State Government was asked to suggest the names of senior cops for forming an SIT.
