Local charity remembers loved ones
As part of this year's Global MND Awareness Day on Saturday, June 21, around fifty members and supporters of the East Surrey Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association attended the Branch's twenty-second annual 'Free Spirit' memorial event at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, to remember loved ones no longer with us, many of whom died from Motor Neurone Disease.
Following a special 'Celtic Blessing', read by former Branch Chairperson, Beryl Willmott, a minute's silence was observed, during which a number of tethered white helium-filled balloons were raised, attached to each of which were a series of blue and gold ribbons containing the names of those people being remembered.
Since first being organised in June 2004, this very emotional event has also raised over £100,000 for the Branch by way of supporting donations, to help them continue their vital care and support to local people living with MND and their families, as well as helping to fund vital research into the disease itself.
