Redhill high-rise block plan goes to appeal process

COUNCIL REJECTED SCHEME FOR 255 FLATS AT A REDEVELOPED STATION IN OCTOBER

TWO tower blocks could yet be built in Redhill after a developer launched an appeal against the council's decision to throw the plans out.

Reigate and Banstead borough councillors rejected the scheme for 255 flats at a redeveloped railway station in October. It came after 2,000 people lodged objections, with many arguing allowing the 15 and 14-storey blocks would set a high rise precedent and turn the town into 'another Croydon'.

Now, the developer, Solum, has appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, arguing the council's reasons for refusing its plan are "illusory" and that changes to national planning policy mean that its decision should be reversed.
