Julian's the first in county to have new cancer treatment

A PATIENT has become the first in Surrey to be treated with fewer does of radiotherapy.

Julian Barry received his treatment for prostate cancer over five days at Royal Surrey Cancer Centre.

The new treatment reduces the number of radiotherapy doses as well as the overall treatment time.

Male patients at the Guildford hospital who are undergoing treatment for prostate cancer can now receive five treatments across two weeks, instead of up to 37 sessions spread over several weeks; significantly reducing the amount of time needed, while also having the same level of effectiveness.

Mr Barry, 74, was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a blood test showed his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels were raised.
