Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke discuss dual perspectives and jealousy with Lynn Rusk in their upcoming thriller series The Girlfriend, vailable on Prime Video from Wednesday.

These two women believe their truths are the only truths," reflects Robin Wright.

The 59-year-old actress, best known for playing Jenny in Forrest Gump, stars alongside House Of The Dragon's Olivia Cooke in The Girlfriend, a six-part psychological thriller adapted from Michelle Frances' novel.

The series follows Laura, played by Wright, a woman who seems to have it all: a successful career, a devoted husband, portrayed by Waleed Zuaiter, and her beloved son, Daniel, played by Laurie Davidson. But her perfect world unravels when Daniel introduces Cherry, portrayed by Cooke, a girlfriend who changes everything.

After a fraught first meeting, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. But is Cherry a calculating social climber, or is Laura simply paranoid? The truth depends on who you believe.

While dual perspectives and clashing narratives aren't new to television, Showtime's The Affair being the best-known example, The Girlfriend offers its own unsettling twist.

"What enticed me was the dual perspectives, especially the female characters, as women are so hyper-aware," says Wright, who also directed and produced the series.

"Men are like, 'I didn't even see what you just saw, and you saw 16 things that went down with one person's look. That's what the show is about. Did it really happen that way? Is that really how you heard it? Did she really say it in that tone? Or are you projecting onto that person?"
