Businesses accused of using machines to 'trap' motorists
The number of parking tickets issued by private firms jumped by almost a quarter in just three months-costing drivers nearly £5million a day.
The figures come as motoring groups await the results of a delayed Government probe into new rules for the controversial industry.
Official figures show 4.3million parking tickets were handed out by private businesses between April and June-up by 24% from the 3.5million over the same quarter last year.
