NHS worker's epic swim around island for charity

AN NHS worker has swum around the island of Jersey's coastline to raise money for a charity which supports the community.

Marie-Helene Sanderson completed a lap of the largest Channel Island in just under 11 hours on Friday, July 25.

The 43-year-old, who lives in Stanley, County Durham, completed the challenge in marathon swimming rules, meaning that she wore just a swimming costume, hat and goggles.

She wasn't permitted to wear a wet suit, but didn't need one anyway as she had spent 18 months training in the North Sea's chilly waters at Tynemouth and in Ladyburn Lake at Druridge Bay.
