Ex-marathon runner with dementia rekindles her passion

Carolin Turner takes to the streets as she rediscover; her love of running

A WOMAN is proving that life goes on despite dementia as she leads running classes for fellow residents at a city care home.

Caroline Turner, 78, was a keen marathon runner and member of the Sunderland Strollers running club for many years.

Living at Archers Court in Farringdon, Sunderland, she thought her running days were behind her due to her dementia diagnosis - until a visiting trainer spotted how her “eyes lit up” at the thought of a casual jog. Alex Greaves, an academy trainer for Orchard Care Homes which runs Archers Court, spotted Caroline's love for running.

And now she's spreading the message with others at the home. She said: “I used to run three times a week, do spin classes and be very active.

“Getting out and about again feels fantastic. Now I get to share that with others here at Archer’s Court.” Caro-
