Frustration at $5k-a-day bill to keep county hall offices open

A COUNCIL has come under fire for spending more than £5,000 a day on deserted offices.

Worcestershire County Council's main office was shut last June when legionella was detected in the water system.

But despite standing vacant, the 49-year-old complex, in Spetchley Road, Worcester, continues to be funded from the public purse and records revealed that maintaining it last year racked up costs of £1,993,545, roughly £5,300 a day.

That included £390,000 for a feasibility study on the premises which determined the site was "surplus to requirements".

The council last month revealed a £95 million deficit for 2024/25 and is facing criticism for the ongoing costs.
