Young lead inequality battle

July 06, 2025

WEALTH inequality is destroying Britain. It leads to a society of haves and have nots. But it does not need to be that way.

And in great political tradition, it is no surprise young people should be at the forefront of a campaign to change things for the better.

On July 4, Green New Deal Rising took to the streets to demand the super-rich pay for investment in public services, decent housing, well-paid secure jobs and an environment that does not make us sick. They want to see action taken on inequality and climate change because they are rightly anxious about our futures.

I have called for a two per cent annual wealth tax on those with assets of more than £10million. This would bring in £24billion a year. The top one per cent of the super-rich own more wealth than 70 per cent of the population. Our young people and our future generations deserve better, and I'll continue to campaign with them.
