Somerville call to protect Motability scheme

SCOTLAND's Social Justice Secretary has written to UK ministers urging them not to slash the Motability scheme for disabled drivers.

The SNP's Shirley-Anne Somerville said nearly 90,000 disabled Scots and their carers depend on the programme which allows them to access cars via the benefits system to meet their mobility needs.

It comes as Chancellor Rachel Reeves is reportedly considering axing VAT and insurance tax breaks as part of efforts to claw back £1billion from the scheme.
