Red-faced Jim admits pride's hurt

JIM GOODWIN admits Dundee United were embarrassed by their capitulation to Celtic at Tannadice.

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

The Tangerines are still fighting for a European spot in the top half of the Premiership but yesterday were humbled by the champions. Brendan Rodgers' side clinched the title on Tayside with a thumping 5-0 victory thanks to doubles from Nicholas Kuhn and Adam Idah, along with a Ryan Strain own goal. Goodwin is adamant the defeat won't detract from United's terrific campaign in the top flight after being promoted last summer. But he admits they didn't help themselves against a rampant Celtic on their own patch.

The United gaffer said: "We're a bit embarrassed with the way the scoreline looks.

"Myself and the players have personal pride and nobody likes to be on the end of a result like that.

"I take responsibility as manager because I asked the team to play in a certain way.

"We should have managed the game better at 2-0 but they scored in added time in the first half then two minutes into the second.

"At that point it was damage limitation for us.
