SCOTLAND'S drug deaths scandal is brought into shameful focus by former Labour minister Sir Ian McCartney.

He has spoken of his heartbreak at losing a son to an overdose. Hugh, 23, was found dead in a Glasgow flat in 1999 after taking heroin.

Hugh's death was one of 291 drug-related fatalities in Scotland that year.

Since then the number has been increasing at a consistent and alarming rate, with the figure for 2024 at 1065.
