City draw isn't worst result for doomed Saints

SOUTHAMPTON held Manchester City to a goalless stalemate to avoid becoming the worst team in Premier League history.

The rock-bottom Saints were already relegated but claimed their 12th point of the season. That's one better than dismal Derby managed in 2007/08.

Relieved Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale said: “We're not happy about how the season has gone but we're happy we've avoided that record.

“We're under no illusions that it's not a great points tally. Everyone knows it’s been a difficult season for us.”
