But now the three of us have had to let Jeff Bezos into the club.

We all fell love in Venice, with Venice and decided to marry in that incredible city.

But there's a major difference between my Venetian fairytale and the Bezos-Sanchez nuptials - about £13.9million.

The Clooneys themselves spent £5million which seemed huge then but their wedding now looks a small, classy affair compared with this weekend.

But when it comes to getting married in Venice, it's really not just for the rich and famous.

We decided to get married quietly there 22 years ago and just six months before, while on a trip, sauntered up to the register office on the Grand Canal to ask how easy it was.

There was no red tape, hardly any form filling and all we had to do was turn up a few days before our chosen date to confirm we were going through with it.

We had to pay about 400 euros to the City of Venice.
