THEY'VE done well and lasted for more than a century. But recent events might suggest those old Reithian principles that were the foundations of the BBC namely "to inform, educate and entertain" are in urgent need of updating.

How about “to deceive, ignore and con?”

Be in no doubt, this crisis is the greatest the BBC has ever faced and that's down to one unavoidable truth - this is not one appalling mess up, rather it is an avalanche.

If it was just the unjustifiable doctoring of the President Trump speech they might - just might - have got away with it.

Even though it did involve not one but two supposed flagship shows, and not least as so many people seem to suffer from TDS - Trump Derangement Syndrome - automatically turning against him at the first mention.

But, unfortunately for the BBC, they lurch from crisis to crisis with all the sure-footedness of a duck landing on ice.

Michael Prescott, a former independent adviser to the BBC, was the whistle-blower behind the forensically accurate report on the unbelievable goings on within the BBC's news department.
