MOTORISTS are once again feeling the pinch at the pumps, with petrol prices rising to their highest level in two months. And experts warn the worst may be yet to come.
Latest figures show the average price of unleaded petrol is now 133.19p per litre, the highest since April 28.
Diesel is even steeper at 140.58p per litre. And while prices remain well below the record highs of 2022, a mix of global tension, retailer markups and possible tax hikes could soon send them soaring again.
The latest increases were triggered by a sharp rise in global oil prices.
Brent crude jumped from $64 a barrel in late May to nearly $79 by late June, as fears grew that conflict between Israel and Iran could disrupt supplies through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Prices have since cooled but returned to around $70 a barrel last week, and drivers may have noticed the difference in their pockets.
