Paul Onuachu struck late to deliver Ivan Juric a first victory as Southampton manager.
Saints fans will see this smash and grab victory as revenge for a last-gasp defeat at Portman Road last season and a 90th-minute leveller at St Mary's in September.
Saints opened the scoring against the run of play through Joe Aribo (below) and sealed victory as Ipswich ran out of ideas in the final 15 minutes.
