2ND ASHES TEST, DAY FOUR, LORD’S: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA ANOTHER DAY OF SENSATIONAL FIREWORKS AND FAILURES | Cummins’ Pom disposal experts make it a crying game for Stokes

- Mike WALTERS

NOW IT’S A CASE OF BAZ-BAWL!

IT was enough to make most England fans weep into their beer as Pat Cummins' Pom Disposal Squad set about their task here yesterday.

In 77 balls of carnage, England's Ashes dreams were dismantled by Aussie hurricanes Mitchell Starc and their super skipper Cummins.

Set an improbable 371 to win the second Test and level the series, their chase was holed below the water line inside 12.5 overs as they crashed to 45-4.

Despite Ben Duckett's defiant, 62-ball half-century, following his 98 first time, England need another 257 runs to win today and pigs might fly.

Duckett was lucky to be reprieved controversially, just before the close, when Starc was adjudged by TV umpire Marais Erasmus to have grounded a catch off Cameron Green.

It looked a very harsh call, but it doesn't change the sobering truth: England have been outplayed.
