Foreign criminals to face 'immediate deportation'

Sunday Express

August 10, 2025

FOREIGN criminals will be booted out of Britain immediately under a new legal shakeup.

- By David Williamson CHIEF POLITICAL COMMENTATOR

The law change is part of a move to save taxpayers' cash, free up prison space and ensure the offenders do not return to UK streets.

From September, criminals can be deported after serving 30% of their sentence instead of 50%. But a new law will mean it will be possible to kick out them out right away and bar them from reentering the country.

However, terrorists, murderers and people serving life terms must serve their sentences before being candidates for deportation.

A prisoner can also be kept in a British jail if there is “clear evidence” they are “planning further crimes against UK interests such as posing a threat to national security”.

Nearly 5,200 “foreign national offenders” have been sent home since last July.
