Fishing fears over Keir's Brexit 'reset'

THE fishing industry fears the UK will cave in to demands for guaranteed access to British waters, as part of Labour's "reset" of EU relations.

Brussels is expected to insist on an early fishing deal before it considers deeper co-operation, including the dismantling of trade barriers.

Jerry Percy, of Nutfa, an organisation representing small boat fishers, said it is clear the EU sees Brexit as the "starting point for even more access to our fishing grounds".

He said: "It would appear from recent comments by the present government that they also are willing to put the UK's fishing and processing sectors on the table.
