Latest opus, Lose Your Self, landed Friday with little or no fanfare but it’s undoubtedly the St Albans quartet's finest work yet, and one that's got mainstream media purring. So why the cloak and dagger routine this time?

“We wanted people to be able to hear this music in a totally different way,” mainman Rou Reynolds says. “With no lead up, no singles, and no explanation it forces the listener to actually listen. To take it all in.

“As a whole entity. We don’t want to feed them our ideas or spoon feed them explanations. We simply present it all. We also don’t want to get distracted by chart races and accolades and things. We got Nol on our last record. That box is ticked. ‘This is simply about the music.”

That 2023 album, A Kiss For The Whole World, was a celebration of optimism, but is that harder to maintain in the current political global climate?
