Calls for clinic action on crusade's birthday

CAMPAIGNERS have called for action to improve diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis on the second anniversary of the Sunday Express Better Bones crusade.

The campaign, launched in conjunction with the Royal Osteoporosis Society on June 25, 2023, called on the Government to ensure 100% access to specialist bone clinics, called Fracture Liaison Services, across Britain.

These clinics are the gold standard for diagnosis of the bone weakening condition across the world.

When available in all NHS trusts in England they will end a postcode lottery for treatment, as currently only half of the trusts have an FLS.

As part of our Better Bones campaign we called for £30million per year additional investment in FLS to fill the gaps in population coverage and quality.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting backed our campaign when he was in opposition and since taking office has repeatedly pledged to fulfil his promise of "rolling out FLS across every part of the country by 2030".
