Atlantic charity row such a drag for ex-Marines

TWO former Royal Marine Commandos are set to become the first men to row the Atlantic in drag — to raise funds for the Samaritans and forces charity Care After Combat.

Veterans Sean Phelps and Jonathan “Jonny” Towers will set off from Lanzarote in the new year and row 3,200 miles to Antigua.

The punishing voyage is likely to take between 60 and 80 days, with the pair burning a daily 6,000 calories.

And after more than a year of training, they opted to put a twist on their mission by doing it in costume, something they say is “a nod to Royal Marine traditions” where Commandos have unwound by dressing up in drag for social drinking sessions.
