Green snatch defeat from jaws of victory

THE highs and lows of cricket were very much evident as the enigma that is Hawk Green 1st XI snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with a series of dropped chances.

Middlewich were the visitors to the Green on Saturday and on winning the toss the Green’s skipper, Dylan Heginbotham, elected to bat first with Sam Messih and Lewis Clarke opening against the Middlewich attack of Kall Boyle and Marco Azakli.

Both batsmen appeared in good form and untroubled by the opening attack. Messih was in good nick and played a couple of excellent cover drives before being adjudged lbw to change bowler Phil Parry for 39.

Clarke had also started to push the rate along when he suffered the same fate as Messih, lbw to Parry for 22, 68-2.

Skipper Heginbotham joined Jack Needham at the crease and was next to fall, bowled Parry for 4, 78-3.

Next in was man in form Lee Hallas but after striking two fours, he too was bowled by Parry for 10, 88-4.
