HC restrains "workers’ of Kisan Mazador Union from proceeding on strike in Power Projects in J&K in National interest

The Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited, a reputed Government Entity, a Joint Venture formed between National Hydro-electric Power Corporation Limited with (51% Stake) and J&K State Power Development Corporation Limited with (49% Stake) is entrusted with the development of strategically significant Projects of National importance under the Build, Own, Operate, and Maintain (BOOM) Model, with a total installed capacity of 3, 094 MW.

The Projects include Pakal Dul Hydro-electric Project (1, 000 MW), Kiru Hydro-electric Project (624 MW), Kwar Hydro-electric Project (540 MW), and Kirthai II Hydro-electric Project (930 MW). Kisan Mazadoor Union has been demanding the payment of wages to the "workers" engaged by the Contractors of the Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited as per the Central Minimum Wages when they are entitled under law to the minimum wages in vogue as per the Notification of the UT Government of J&K Vide Communication dated May 24, 2022 made by the Assistant Labour Commissioner (C), Headquarter, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India to the Managing Director, CVPPL, wherein, the clarification sought has been made by stating that as per the provisions of Section 2 (b)(i) of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the S
