SOUTHPORT FC has confirmed the departure of David Morgan from the club including his role as Academy Manager-in order to pursue other opportunities.

Since first joining the club back in 2017, Morgs swiftly became a favourite amongst the fans, making 105 starts and scoring 19 times in the league. His top quality performances earned him a move to then EFL League One side Accrington Stanley in 2021, for an undisclosed fee.

Morgan joined Southport for a second time at the beginning of the 2023-24 season, taking on a player-coach role at Haig Avenue, whilst also being involved in the coaching of our Academy.

In the summer of 2024, he took on the role of Academy Manager, working closely with Christ The King Catholic High School & Sixth Form Centre, also carrying on his First Team duties alongside this.

Later that season, he would also become interim first team manager following the sacking of Jim Bentley, helping to secure the club's status in the National League North for the 2025-26 season.

A club statement read: "David departs having made 218 appearances in all competitions for Southport, scoring 28 times.

"We thank Morgs for all his efforts during his time with us, and wish him and his family well for the future."
