Care firm boss addresses opposition to children's home plans

A CARE firm boss made an impassioned defence of children in care as he spoke in support of a planning application to convert a residential house into a children’s home.

The speech was given by ECS Care boss Peter Kennedy at Bootle Town Hall at a planning committee meeting.

It related to an application to convert a resident semi-detached house on Bradshaw's Lane, Ainsdale, into a care facility designed to accommodate up to two young people.

Details of the application were heard by the committee which allowed a five minute representation from the applicant and a member of a group which opposed the plans.

Debbie Mercer spoke on behalf of several homeowners and residents of Bradshaw's Lane who opposed the application.

Ms Mercer said: “It is crucial that our established neighbourhood and residents are not less vulnerable or disadvantaged by the placement of this residential children care facility.

“Residents are acutely aware of the potential for anti-social behaviour from the siting of this facility.

“We do not wish to experience this behaviour and have it impact our lives and the lives of our families.
