A stampede that broke out near the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, after fans gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL win, led to the deaths of 11 persons and injuries to 33 on Wednesday (June 4, 2025). The tragedy unfolded near the gates of the stadium, where over 2 lakh fans had gathered to mark RCB's historic first title win in 18 years. Overcrowding and narrow passageways led to a deadly rush.
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had no information that such an event was being planned. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and free treatment to the injured persons. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and RCB would jointly provide a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the family members of each of the deceased.
The Karnataka High Court has directed the Advocate General to get instructions from the State Government on the deaths caused by the stampede.
