Youngsters score World Cup chance to represent Wales

A GROUP of 10 young boys from Swansea and Llanelli will be representing Wales in a global football tournament in Mexico next year.

All of the boys, who will be aged 14 and 15 and are from Bonymaen in Swansea and Seaside in Llanelli, are part of the Swansea City AFC Foundation.

The Swans Foundation is the first organisation to represent Wales in the Street Child World Cup's history, as 24 countries from across the globe compete at the 10-day event in May, 2026, in Mexico City.

The charity behind the world cup tournament is Street Child United (SCU), a global movement that uses the power of sport, art, and advocacy to challenge the stigma faced by children from impoverished areas.

Ahead of each Fifa World Cup, SCU connects children from across the world to play football, take part in a festival of arts, and participate in child-friendly congress sessions, all designed to empower and champion their rights.

“We're extremely excited to be involved in such an incredible opportunity,” said Beth Robinson, targeted interventions manager at Swansea City AFC Foundation, which has been working at the heart of the community for the last 15 years and more.
