FORMER Wales star Jonathan Thomas has stepped down from his role as head coach of Swansea RFC due to medical reasons.

- STEFFAN THOMAS

The 42-year-old was appointed head coach of Swansea ahead of the Super Rygbi Cymru season, having previously held coaching roles with Wales, Worcester Warriors and Bristol Bears. Thomas won 67 caps for Wales but retired 10 years ago as a result of head injuries.

Over the past few months Thomas has experienced some ongoing medical concerns due to the head trauma received as a player and he has decided to put his health first.

“I was incredibly excited to take on this challenge in the summer and am really proud of the progress the team has made,’ said Thomas.

“We've got a good squad who want to improve and challenge, and all the signs are that we are heading in the right direction.
