Dealer called ex a 'rat' as she tried to call for help

Ashley Cann was jailed for possession of cannabis with intent to supply, assault, harassment, and witness intimidation.

(SOUTH WALES POLICE)

A judge said 29-year-old Ashley Cann - who has 46 previous offences on his record - had shown be someone who “seems to have a particular liking towards harassing people”.

He said the defendant had come before the courts “time and time again” and he told Cann he needed to decide whether he was going to continue being a “nuisance” for the rest of his life.

Alycia Carpanini, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court that on April 19 last year police executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property on Pontiago Road, Pontarddulais, from which they recovered a large quantity of snap-seal bags and empty containers.

The homeowner, Cann’s ex-partner, told officers the defendant no longer lived at the address.

The court heard police then went to Cann’s father's house where they found 130g of cannabis worth around £1,000 along with weighing scales, empty snap-seal bags, and £380 in cash. The defendant was arrested and later released on bail.

The prosecutor said on May 4 police received a 999 call from Cann’s former girlfriend saying the defendant was at her home shouting abuse and calling her a “slag” and a “rat” and was “pushing and shoving” her while she was calling for help.
