From wreaking havoc against opposition defences in the top-flight of South African football with Platinum Stars and Cape Town City, Gift Links has rapidly risen in the European game, causing the same problems for backlines there. A Danish Superliga Team of the Season honouree, the left wing-back has spent six years with Aarhus GF (AGF), yet a second call-up under Hugo Broos continues to elude him. The 26-year-old recently sat down with Soccer Laduma international football writer Kamogelo Motecwane to discuss his time in Scandinavia, his adaptation to a new position, interest from other clubs, and his continued omission from the Bafana Bafana set-up.

because I think everybody can see what coach Hugo Broos has done for Bafana. He’s done an amazing job. I think we have a lot of good players, so it’s stressful for him when he has to select the team. So, whoever makes the list, we should be happy for them. The rest of us will keep working. But with regards to Bafana, I'll just keep working hard. Of course, whatever happens, happens.

KM: That’s an understandable sentiment to share, but you are playing for a top team in a top European league and doing well. And it has been four years since you've made it into the Bafana squad.

South Americans are very fragile

Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
