Downs push the envelope

Mamelodi Sundowns continue to set the bar higher as they find themselves participating in their second FIFA Club World Cup, after dominating the domestic football space for almost a decade and finishing as runners-up in the CAF Champions League a few weeks ago.

Most of the team's current players will get their first time experience at this level, while seasoned campaigners like Denis Onyango and Themba Zwane 'have seen this movie before.' This is history in the making, not just for Downs but for South African football in general, because the benefits of playing at that level will be enjoyed by our football as well. Being there means the club's brand continues to grow while they will be shining a spotlight on our football so that people start looking at us differently. For most, if not all of them, this is a dream come true as these players would never have imagined being at this stage in their careers. To be in the same tournament as some of the best players in the world and to share a stage with them must be priceless. After all, this is the highest club football stage!
