Sunderland's victory over rivals a Christmas present for the city

Enzo Le Fee celebrates with his Sunderland team-mates following the team's victory in the Premier League over Newcastle United at the Stadium of Light.

The midfielder was visibly emotional after full-time, reflecting on what the result meant not just for the players, but for the city as a whole following an afternoon charged with intensity, noise and significance.

"Tired, but unbelievable," Le Fée said. "We knew already it was an important game, not just for us, but for the city. Our target was to win this game in front of our fans, to give this present before Christmas. Just unbelievable."

Since arriving on Wearside, Le Fée has experienced a sequence of major fixtures and defining moments, and he admitted his connection with the club has grown rapidly.

"A lot," he said when asked what Sunderland now means to him.

"I was in a bad situation in Rome, and when I came, honestly, I still knew everything about this club. I know it was a big club, because everyone knows, but when I came, I just felt I received a good welcome.

"After one week, I felt at home, and to play this big game was the case last year, when we played the playoff. Even early in the season, when we played against Middlesbrough, it was crazy. For our fans to give this three points and this win, we are really happy."
