Unless you've been living abroad or on Mars lately, you'll have noticed some mention of flags, whether on the TV news or hanging from a local lamppost.

But new arrivals to the UK-well, the ones that aren't put on the next rocket out of town - could be forgiven for thinking that all this was some marketing campaign, as October 3 is Buy British Day.

The annual event is designed to instil national pride in our own manufacturers, food providers, and services. Of course, Britain is a diverse nation so we no longer confine ourselves to fish and chips or Aston Martins and Bentleys.
