Burn proud of Magpies' 'character' on away run
Shields Gazette
|February 24, 2026
Newcastle United were beaten 2-1 at Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening - but a big talking point after the game was Dan Burn's disallowed goal.
Dan Burn
Nico O'Reilly scored either side of Lewis Hall's equaliser, but Newcastle thought they'd equalised for a second time when Burn headed in from Sandro Tonali's free-kick.
The offside flag went up to rule out the goal with a VAR check upholding the on-field decision.
While replays showed Burn in an offside position when the ball was delivered into the box, the Newcastle defender was pushed offside by Ruben Dias.
