ROUND-UP OF NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE PLANNING
TWO public phone boxes in North Lincolnshire face closure.
BT have proposed the removal of the phone equipment from phone boxes at Cross Street, Barrow upon Humber, and George Street, Kirton in Lindsey. Low usage is the reason cited for the facilities no longer being required.
The move has been assessed against Ofcom guidance on telephony services in the UK.
This requires BT and KCOM to provide universal telephony services, including public call boxes. A consultation is open until July 10, for the community to make representations against the closure.
Read on below for more and other recent North Lincolnshire planning developments.
PUBLIC PHONE BOXES
BT's public notices for the phone box closures state: "Unfortunately, it just isn't used enough for us to carry on running it."
Data submitted to North Lincolnshire Council's planning portal states the two phone boxes have had 15 calls made from them in 12 months - split 8-7 in favour of Kirton’s public call box.
