Campaigner's call to beat isolation and rising rents

A CHARITY leader has called for the Government to reduce pensioner loneliness through an “innovative” housing policy.

Trevor Lyttleton, 88, founder of Reengage, said the effect of Labour “kicking social care down the road” is “devastating”.

But he said his proposed social reforms could save Chancellor Rachel Reeves millions ahead of the November Budget.

He is calling for a modest tax incentive for older homeowners, to encourage them to rent out spare rooms to younger tenants facing skyrocketing rent prices.

Branded “innovative” by David Cameron in 2016, he says the idea addresses two issues “literally under the same roof”.
