To mark the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, Bowood House & Gardens in Wiltshire is hosting a series of events to honour the celebrated author.
Austen, loved for her witty romantic novels with strong female characters, has a connection to The Lansdowne family which owns and manages Bowood Estate. In 1806, the second Marquess of Lansdowne was Austen’s landlord while she lived in Southampton, shortly before she moved to Chawton, Hampshire, and began work on her most famous novels.
