A HIGHLY unusual cask combination has been used to create a brand new dram. Cù Bòcan, is the experimental single malt crafted each winter at the Tomatin distillery in the Highlands.

Now, its latest release, entitled 'Creation #7', has been launched. As the name suggests, is the seventh edition in the Creations series.

However, in a special twist, it has matured in rare Pineau des Charentes Rouge oak casks that are used for wine which blends unfermented grape juice with cognac before being aged for 14 months.

The second part of the process then uses American virgin oak casks, resulting in a distinctive flavour profile of rhubarb, custard, heather smoke and sweet oak spice.
