THE distillers who own Tomintoul and Glencadam have celebrated a key milestone with the development of their first malt whisky distillery in China, in Chun'an county in the Zhejiang province.

Angus Dundee Distillers has announced the ceremonial filling of the first spirit into the inaugural cask at the Chun'an Malt Whisky Distillery. It will marry traditional Scotch whisky-making with the distinctive environment and cultural heritage of the region.

The site overlooks the picturesque Thousand Island Lake which locals claim offers “the finest water under the heaven”.

The First Spirit Filling Ceremony was attended by Angus Dundee directors and marked the beginning of the whisky’s long maturation journey. It concluded with a farm-to-table luncheon inspired by the local terroir.

Director Iain Lochhead said: “Chun’an Distillery is a unique opportunity to combine Scotland’s whisky heritage with one of China’s most inspiring natural landscapes.
