Wealthiest deserting Britain

BRITAIN has suffered the biggest fall in billionaires on record after Chancellor Rachel Reeves's non-dom tax crackdown, according to an annual rich list.

- By Henry Saker-Clark

The index of Britain's wealthiest people was once again topped by the Indian Hinduja family, who are worth more than £35billion and run a business empire covering banking, cable TV and trucks.

Famous figures, including Sir Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sir Lewis Hamilton and David and Victoria Beckham, are all among the UK's 350 richest individuals and families.

But the figures reveal a third con-secutive slump in the number of bil-lionaires residing in the UK.

The number slid to 156 this year, from 165 in 2024. This represents the sharpest decline in the Sunday Times Rich List’s 37-year history. Robert Watts, compiler of the list, said: “Our billionaire count is down and the combined wealth of those who fea-ture in our research is falling.

“We are also finding fewer of the world’s super-rich are coming to live in the UK.”
