TWO bikers have been killed in separate crashes in Scotland within four hours of each other on the eve of a new safety campaign being launched.

New figures show that between January 2015 and August last year, a total of 269 motorcyclists died on Scotland's roads.

Analysis showed that motorbike riders or passengers accounted for 18% of all fatalities despite accounting for less than one per cent of all road traffic.

Police have renewed their appeals for both drivers and bikers to take extra care to try and prevent any further tragedies.

On Wednesday, a 70-year-old man was killed when his red and cream Moto Guzzi was involved in a collision with a car and a lorry.

It happened on the A68 at Earlston in the Borders at about 12.20pm.
