TOMMY FLEETWOOD and Shane Lowry did their chances of donning the Green Jacket no harm on day one - but will both rue letting shots slip late on.

The Ryder Cup teammates hovered at the top end of the leaderboard early on, but they failed to step on the gas when the opportunity arose.

Lowry went on the attack and birdied the first two holes, but gave those shots back with a four-putt from the fringe on the par-three fourth.

The Irishman slipped to one over at the sixth, but was back in the red by nine after successive birdies.
