STILIYAN PETROV has hit out at the Celtic board for lacking leadership and leaving fans in the dark.

The Hoops hero reckons his former club’s campaign is in the balance with the leadership becoming outdated and complacent while calling on officials to give angry supporters answers to key questions.

Celts face a huge summer of uncertainty with an interim chairman, and interim manager, no director of football or head of recruitment, and several players on loan or looking for exits.

Petrov said: “You need strong leaders in difficult times. At the moment, it seems like there's nobody out there leading in the right direction, doing the right things to calm things down, give the opportunity for the fans to settle and team to start performing.

“It needs a clear plan of action - what is happening here, what happens next - who leads?

“There's not a clear message to the fans, to Martin O'Neill about what is happening next season, to the players - there's no clarity at the moment.

“That's where the fans get frustrated.
