Seville bolts past rivals as Jamaica get back on top

USAIN BOLT danced in the stands of Tokyo's Olympic Stadium as Jamaica finally reclaimed a global men's 100m crown.

Since the fastest man in history called time on his own career, the Caribbean nation has been starved of men’s sprint success, but Oblique Seville changed all that.

The 24-year-old delivered on his unquestioned potential with a personal best 9.77secs to take World Championship glory ahead of compatriot Kishane Thompson, with American Olympic champion Noah Lyles third.

Seville has work do to catch Bolt’s world record but he has restored Jamaica to the top of the sprinting tree.

He said:

“It’s an excellent feeling. The last time a Jamaican got the title was in 2015 and that was Usain Bolt, so I am really happy knowing I got the gold medal. I showed my resilience and my fight and determination.”
