Sack those who helped wreck China spying trial, Starmer told

KEIR Starmer must sack anyone who refused to give key evidence to prosecutors in the China “spying” scandal, top Tories said yesterday.

The Crown Prosecution Service said it had to drop charges against Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry as Labour had failed to detail how China was a security threat.

The PM provoked outrage as he tried to blame the last Government for not identifying China as a risk.

Some Tory MPs say he may have to quit. Sir Iain Duncan Smith said: “The Labour Government’s excuse for collapsing this trial — the most significant breach of Parliamentary security in decades — does not hold water. All the Crown Prosecution Service needed was Government evidence to show that China presents an ongoing threat.

“The Prime Minister tried to claim that Conservative policy on China in 2023 is why evidence could not be provided.”
