Reeves arrives in Washington as

RACHEL Reeves has pledged to "defend Britain's interests" as she prepares to push for a trade deal with America.

The Chancellor was due to arrive in Washington today for three days of crunch talks where she is expected to champion Britain as a destination for investment. Ms Reeves will also hold her first face-to-face meeting with US counterpart Scott Bessant for talks on a deal.

But figures in the Trump administration have cast doubt.

Ms Reeves said the UK was still expected to grow faster than both France or Germany this year.

She added: "The report also clearly shows that the world has changed, which is why I will be... making the case for free and fair trade." The IMF expects UK inflation to average 3.1% this year – highest in the G7 and above the US at 3%, despite fears that higher tariffs will send US prices soaring.
